Board of directors

The Santa Clara Valley Water District board of directors is composed of seven members. Five members are elected from geographical areas which coincide with the county supervisorial districts, and two at-large members are appointed by the county Board of Supervisors. The directors serve overlapping four-year terms. This structure was created pursuant to the adoption of the District Act.

Board of Director meetings
The board of directors holds its meetings every second and fourth Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at the headquarters building board room, unless otherwise noted.

Role of the water district board members
The board establishes policy on the district's mission, goals, and operations. It represents the general public in deciding issues related to water supply and flood protection. The board also has the authority to adopt ordinances that have the force of law within the district.

The board reviews staff recommendations and decides which policies should be implemented in light of the district's mission and goals. The board also monitors the implementation of its policies.

The district's General Manager organizes the details of project implementation. The board supervises management to see that the work is accomplished on time and efficiently.
