Floodplain Management Association’s “Award for Excellence”
The District received the "Award for Excellence" recently at a Floodplain Management Association (FMA) conference in Lake Tahoe recently. The FMA recognized the District for its “diverse and comprehensive flood protection, stream stewardship and public outreach programs”. They highlighted the program as including flood protection projects that include natural creek and bay ecosystem protection and habitat restoration. They also noted our partnering with cities and the county to provide trails, parks and open space and our sponsorship and support of community volunteer programs such as the Adopt-A-Creek and Creek Connections Actions group along with our interactive website. They recognized our support for cities and the county in FEMA's National Flood Insurance Program and Community Rating System and acknowledged our Independent Monitoring Committee who annually review our program.
