Groundbreaking celebration for Adobe Creek Upper Reach 5 Restoration Project

The Santa Clara Valley Water District hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for the Adobe Creek Upper Reach 5 Restoration Project on Wednesday, May 7, at Edith Park. Representatives from the City of Los Altos and Town of Los Altos Hills, including Director Patrick Kwok from Valley Water, Councilmember Mike O’Malley, Mayor Val Carpenter, and Vice Mayor Jean Mordo, came together to celebrate the start of construction and the positive relationship with the residents of the community.

This project results from a partnership between Valley Water, the Adobe Creek Watershed Group, creekside neighbors, and staff from the cities and various regulatory agencies in an effort to provide flood protection and natural habitat restoration. The group held several community meetings where all stakeholders had the opportunity to share their valued ideas and provide feedback for the planning phase of the project.

Work is expected to begin in May and continue for approximately eight months. The project will repair the eroded channel, stabilize banks, remove accumulated sediment, improve the channel conveyance capacity and plant native vegetation to benefit the creek ecosystem.

The Santa Clara Valley Water District manages wholesale drinking water resources and provides stewardship for the county's watersheds, including 10 reservoirs, hundreds of miles of streams and groundwater basins. The water district also provides flood protection throughout Santa Clara County.
