The Environmental Enhancement Program has two grant programs, one for planning and one for implementation projects. Both implement Board Ends Policy 4.1 healthy creek and bay ecosystems and support the Outcome 3.2 goal of the Clean, Safe Creeks and Natural Flood Protection Program, which calls for the creation of additional wetlands, riparian habitat and favorable streams conditions for fisheries and wildlife.
Objectives of the program (consistent with Outcome 3.2) include:
• 100 acres of tidal and/or riparian habitat created or restored
• Protection for endangered species
• Removal of fish migration barriers/Installation of fish ladders
• Removal of non-native, invasive plants
• Revegetation of native plant species
Since the year 2000, more than 358 acres of tidal and riparian enhancements have been implemented across the county. These projects are currently carried out through the District's Environmental Enhancement Grants, as well as incorporation into District flood protection and water utility projects.
