Weather Based Irrigation Controller (WBIC) Rebate Program

The WBIC Rebate Program will help you save water, time, and money by using local weather conditions to scientifically, calculate and automatically adjust an irrigation schedule to meet the specific needs of your landscape.

The program offers WBIC controllers that manage and change your water schedule for you.

What is a WBIC, and how does it work?

Weather Based Irrigation Controllers evaluate local weather conditions and Evapo-Transpiration (ET) rates to create a site-specific irrigation schedule for you landscape’s needs. Evapo-Transpiration is the total amount of water loss through soil evaporation and plant transpiration.*

Using either real time or modified historic ET values, a WBIC adjusts your irrigation system for optimal watering.

Note: *Evapo-Transpiration values are calculated through local temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, solar radiation, amount of shade or sun, plant type and soil consistency.

Who is eligible to participate?

The WBIC Rebate Program is available to any Santa Clara county business owner who would like to replace their existing irrigation controllers and who meets the following criteria:

  • Minimum of ½ acre (21,780 sq ft) of irrigated landscape
  • Minimum of 12 irrigation stations in use on site
  • A functional irrigation system (no broken sprinklers, existing controller must be in working condition)
