Flood protection project
Upper Berryessa Creek
Flood Protection Project

Project description:
The purpose of this project is to improve Berryessa Creek to ensure flood protection from a 100-year flood event. The project begins at Calaveras Boulevard and ends upstream of Old Piedmont Road. The length of this reach is approximately 4.3 miles. Berryessa Creek is a tributary to the Coyote Creek system, and its watershed is approximately 22 square miles in size. Prior studies found that homes along the creek are at risk to flooding and the creek experiences sediment deposition problems.

Goals and objectives:

  1. Provide protection to the surrounding area from the 100-year flood event.
  2. Reduce sedimentation and maintenance requirements.
  3. Increase and improve riparian habitat.
  4. Increase and improve fisheries habitat.
  5. Provide for recreational opportunities.
