Flood protection project
Calera Creek - Berryessa Creek to downstream of Escuela Parkway

Project description:
The purpose of this project is to improve Calera Creek to ensure flood protection from a 100-year flood event. The objective of this Berryessa project is to fully mitigate the impacts of increased flood risks associated with backwater effects.

Goals and objectives:

  1. Provide protection to the surrounding area from the 100-year flood event.
  2. The project will improve the structural integrity of the levees.
  3. The project will improve maintenance access and safety of District staff.
  4. The project will incorporate the City of Milpitas' recreational trail and bridge project.
  5. The project will seek to obtain a Letter of Map Revision (LOMR) from FEMA, revising flood insurance rate maps and thus reducing the required insurance for local homeowners and businesses.
