Flood Protection Project
Upper Guadalupe River (Highway 280 to Blossom Hill Road)

Project goal:
To provide flood protection for 7,500 homes and businesses with potential damages from a 1 percent flood exceeding $280 million (1998 value) and provide long-term environmental benefits for fish and wildlife habitat.

Project benefits

This project provides flood protection on the upper Guadalupe River, from 280 to Blossom Hill Road. Based on the Corps' January 1998 final feasibility report, the proposed, 100 year plan would have the beneficial effect of preventing $280 million in damages from a 1 percent flood. It would protect over 2,310 acres of land from being inundated, including an estimated 7,500 homes, schools and businesses.

Status

  • Corps is currently in the preconstruction engineering and design phase. Depending on federal funding in fiscal year 2007, construction on Reaches 10B and 12 could start as early as June 2008. Total project costs are approximately $230 million.

  • District has begun design on Reach 6. Anticipate Construction to begin in 2009.
