Water is a vital element of our everyday lives. We depend on it not only for our personal use, but also for our business, farm and recreational needs; and for the natural beauty of the creeks and rivers.

The Santa Clara Valley Water District acts as the steward for all of Santa Clara County's water resources. It does this to make sure the creek ecosystems are healthy, that there is enough clean, safe water for homes and businesses, and to protect valley residents from devastating floods.

In this section, you will find information on all aspects of water in the Santa Clara Valley:

  • The district’s Fiscal Year 2007/2008 Capital Improvement Program (CIP) is available online. The CIP serves as the District's long-term capital investment plan. It is a tool for staff to plan and make recommendations to the Board on key financial commitments to construct new facilities.

  • Do you know which watershed you live in? Are you interested in the water issues in your neighborhood? Find out which creeks and rivers are near your house, track a flood protection project. All this and more can be found in the Watersheds, streams and floods section.

  • How can you save water (and money?) How much water do we really need? Whether you are a home owner, business owner, or farmer, there are steps you can take to use water more efficiently. Find out more in the Water conservation pages.

  • In Santa Clara County, as in the rest of California, water and water-pumping costs are important considerations for the agricultural industry. Efficient irrigation methods and scheduling are the key to maximizing water and fertilizer use efficiency. Learn more in the Water in agriculture section.

  • Do you know where your water comes from? Did you know more than half of Santa Clara County's supply is imported from the Sierra Nevada range by way of the Sacramento-San Joaquin river delta? Learn about imported and local water sources, reservoirs, wells, and the retail companies that deliver water to your home or business in Where your water comes from.

  • Ensuring the quality of our local water resources is also one of the district's tasks. Find out about the quality of the water in Santa Clara Valley, how the district protects the local water supply, and ensures the water we provide is clean and safe in the Water quality section.
