Board Elections

The Santa Clara Valley Water District Board of Directors is comprised of seven members, each elected from equally-divided districts drawn through a formal process. The directors serve overlapping four-year terms, a structure created pursuant to the adoption of the District Act. Elections are held in even years during the statewide general election. 

In 2026, the following seats will be up for election:

• District 1 – Gilroy, Morgan Hill, the unincorporated community of San Martin, and parts of East and South San Jose
• District 4 –  Campbell and parts of West and South San Jose
• District 6 – Parts of Central and East San Jose
• District 7 -  Palo Alto, Mountain View, Los Altos, the Town of Los Altos Hills, the Town of Los Gatos, Monte Sereno, and parts of South San Jose

To be eligible to run for the Valley Water Board of Directors, you must be at least 18 years of age, a registered voter, and live within the boundaries of the district for which you wish to be a candidate. Candidates are required to file a Nomination Petition with a minimum of 20 valid signatures of registered voters who live within the district in which the candidate is to be voted on.

In accordance with Santa Clara Valley Water District Board of Directors Resolution No. 2026-40, 50 percent of a candidate’s statement will be paid by Valley Water. At the time of filing, the candidate will pay 50 percent of the fees determined by the Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters.
