Valley Water received an award for Excellence in Communications, for our 2018 annual flood awareness campaign. This award represents the third time the National Association of Flood and Stormwater Management Agencies (NAFSMA) has recognized our efforts in promoting flood preparation.

Valley Water is committed to keeping communities safe by reducing flood risks in Santa Clara County. The first step to being flood-ready is to know your risk. Every winter, we send out a flood pamphlet to let you know if your home or business is in a high-risk flooding area. This document outlines nine quick steps you can take to make sure you and your family are flood safe.

In 2018, we sent this pamphlet to more than 53,000 flood zone homes and businesses in four languages: English, Spanish, Vietnamese, and Chinese. In addition to flood preparedness tips and essential emergency phone numbers, the pamphlet provides links to Valley Water agency resources, such as the FEMA website. By simply entering your address, you will see the location of your home on a floodplain map. You can also register to receive Santa Clara County emergency alerts by signing up for AlertSCC.

At Valley Water, we dedicate ourselves to reducing flood risks for residents and businesses. In the last few decades, we have invested $1 billion in flood protection projects and removed nearly 100,000 parcels from flood zones. Our flood risk reduction efforts save Santa Clara County residents over $2 million annually in reduced or eliminated flood insurance premiums.

We will send you this pamphlet every year if you live in a FEMA Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA), or a high-risk floodplain.   Please make time to go through this vital information to make sure that you plan, prepare, and protect your family or business. Let’s all be flood ready!

Valley Water manages an integrated water resources system that includes the supply of clean, safe water, flood protection and stewardship of streams on behalf of Santa Clara County's 2 million residents. The district effectively manages 10 dams and surface water reservoirs, three water treatment plants, an advanced recycled water purification center, a state-of-the-art water quality laboratory, nearly 285 acres of groundwater recharge ponds and more than 294 miles of streams. We provide wholesale water and groundwater management services to local municipalities and private water retailers who deliver drinking water directly to homes and businesses in Santa Clara County.
