Key update on the Water Supply Master Plan 2050 to be shared on June 25, 2024

Valley Water is updating its existing Water Supply Master Plan, which details our agency’s investment strategies to provide Santa Clara County a safe, clean and reliable water supply into the future.

Our analysis shows that if Valley Water relies only on existing water supply and infrastructure, it will face water shortages during multi-year droughts in the future. Therefore, Valley Water must invest in new projects addressing climate change and population growth. The projects being identified and evaluated include:

Local, drought-proof water supplies such as advanced purified water
New supply and storage projects
Investing in maintaining the existing system

On June 25, 2024, at 1 p.m., Valley Water staff will provide an update to the Board of Directors on this critical effort. The update includes project evaluation, cost analysis, water supply strategy and a proposed adaptive management approach. It also recommends water conservation goals to help people in Santa Clara County make water conservation a way of life.

Valley Water manages an integrated water resources system that includes the supply of clean, safe water, flood protection and stewardship of streams on behalf of Santa Clara County's 2 million residents. Valley Water effectively manages 10 dams and surface water reservoirs, three water treatment plants, an advanced recycled water purification center, a state-of-the-art water quality laboratory, nearly 280 acres of groundwater recharge ponds and 350 miles of waterways. We provide wholesale water and groundwater management services to local municipalities and private water retailers who deliver drinking water directly to homes and businesses in Santa Clara County.
