Valley Water Celebrates 10 Years of the Silicon Valley Advanced Water Purification Center

Today, The Silicon Valley Advanced Water Purification Center (SVAWPC), operated by Valley Water, proudly celebrated its 10th anniversary of leading the region in water innovation. Over the past decade, the center has provided high-quality purified water to enhance the quality of recycled water for nonpotable uses such as irrigation and cooling towers.

Looking ahead, Valley Water is focused on expanding purified water for drinking, a vision that hinges on strong local partnerships. These collaborations are essential as Valley Water plans to build a new purified water facility in the coming years, further enhancing the region’s water security and resilience.

"In the face of growing water challenges caused by climate change, our local city partnerships will be crucial to the success of purified drinking water," said Valley Water Vice Chair Richard P. Santos. "We are committed to working together to build new infrastructure to secure a sustainable water future for all of us."

For the first time, residents can sample the center’s purified water, which is produced using advanced treatment processes such as microfiltration, reverse osmosis, ultraviolet light and disinfection. SVAWPC is committed to raising public awareness about the safety and quality of purified water and its potential as a sustainable drinking water source for the community.

"The ability to bottle and share our purified water with the public is an exciting milestone highlighting our dedication to providing sustainable water solutions.”

San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan expressed his support for expanding purified water efforts, stating, "In a state often challenged by droughts, Valley Water’s water purification facility reflects the problem-solving spirit that defines Silicon Valley. We are eager to support the expansion of this critical infrastructure to ensure reliable access to clean water for generations to come.”

Santa Clara Mayor Lisa Gillmor added, “This celebration marks our longstanding commitment to recycled water use as a key component to building water supply resiliency in our region. We’re very grateful to have Valley Water as partners in this effort.”

As the Silicon Valley Advanced Water Purification Center enters its second decade of operation, Valley Water remains dedicated to delivering innovative and sustainable water solutions that meet the community's needs, now and in the future.
