Climate Change

Content

Climate change presents numerous and often critical challenges to Valley Water’s water supply, flood protection and ecosystem stewardship mission areas. Valley Water is committed to reducing emissions from its operations and projects (climate mitigation) and preparing for climate-related impacts (climate adaptation). Adopted in 2021, Valley Water’s Climate Change Action Plan (CCAP) builds upon Valley Water’s prior mitigation and adaptation activities and presents goals, strategies, and actions to maintain and expand these efforts. The CCAP encompasses both the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and a framework to ensure a safe and resilient water supply, enhanced flood protection, and healthy ecosystems in the future.

Through the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Plan (GHGRP), Valley Water has extended its commitment to reducing emissions from additional sources and achieving carbon neutrality by 2045, consistent with California’s goals under Assembly Bill (AB) 1279. The GHGRP includes an updated baseline inventory of Valley Water’s GHG emissions, a forecast of future GHG emissions, and numerous GHG reduction measures to achieve carbon neutrality by 2045. It provides specific implementation steps as well as metrics to measure and report on progress.
