We at Valley Water are saddened to learn of the passing of Sig Sanchez, an admired and beloved former member of the Valley Water Board of Directors. Sig leaves behind a legacy of public service in Santa Clara County, including his 29 years at Valley Water.

Sig was a strong advocate for South County’s agricultural community and once said water was the most important issue he dealt with in his long career. I had the honor and privilege of being his friend and partner on the Valley Water Board of Directors. We learned from him and carry forward the responsibility of continuing his service to Santa Clara County.

To Sig’s family and many friends, we send our heartfelt condolences. The Valley Water Board of Directors will be honoring Sig Sanchez’s memory at an upcoming board meeting.

Valley Water manages an integrated water resources system that includes the supply of clean, safe water, flood protection and stewardship of streams on behalf of Santa Clara County's 2 million residents. The district effectively manages 10 dams and surface water reservoirs, three water treatment plants, an advanced recycled water purification center, a state-of-the-art water quality laboratory, nearly 285 acres of groundwater recharge ponds and more than 294 miles of streams. We provide wholesale water and groundwater management services to local municipalities and private water retailers who deliver drinking water directly to homes and businesses in Santa Clara County.
