The Santa Clara Valley Water District encourages residents to participate in the AlertSCC, the Santa Clara County emergency alert system.
AlertSCC is a free, easy, and confidential way for anyone who lives or works in Santa Clara County to get emergency warnings sent directly to their cell phone, mobile device, e-mail, or landline. AlertSCC can reach you wherever you are to provide information and instructions in a variety of emergency situations, which may include:
- Flooding, wildfires and subsequent evacuations
- Public safety incidents, including crimes, that immediately affect your neighborhood
- Post-disaster information about shelters, transportation, or supplies
In addition to AlertSCC, the county also promotes downloading the ReadySCC emergency preparedness app.
The app allows you to set a meeting point for your family, list emergency contacts in and out of town, assign a caretaker for your pet and send status updates to your loved ones during an emergency.
With five simple questions you will be on your way to starting your family emergency plan. You can also get access to a detailed guide with step-by-step instructions for creating an emergency kit, including a shopping list. Another key feature includes advisories and alerts via push notifications.
Search ReadySCC on the Apple App Store, or Google Play.
American Red Cross Flood App
Another helpful resource is the American Red Cross Flood app. Download this free app to your smartphone to get flood and flash flood watches and warning alerts for your location based on the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration and the National Weather Service.
Use the app to prepare for an emergency with interactive quizzes, step-by-step advice, and flood safety and emergency preparedness tips, including recommended “next steps.”
